A. The 820 Nano SOM doesn’t support Ubuntu OS. It can however be custom developed if there is a suitable requirement.

Q. Does SnapDragon 820 Nano SOM allows its Linux BSP to access GPU and DSP?

A. Mistral has already tested access to DSP and GPU from Android. With Linux, it is currently under testing.

Q. Is the Linux BSP for 820 Nano SOM updated to the kernel version 4.14?

A. The standard SDK from Mistral supports kernel version 3.18. Support for higher version can offered through custom development services.

Q. When using the 820 Starter Kit, what method do I adopt to flash the Yocto image to the UFS?

A. You can reprogram the Yocto images on the Starter Kit (programmed with Android) using Fastboot commands. Mistral provides a process document to customers who wish to reprogram their boards from Android to Yocto.

Q. Does Mistral provide access to Yocto layers and recipes of SnapDragon 820 Nano SOM to build my own image based on your BSP?

A. The Yocto layers include some parts of Qualcomm’s proprietary code and hence is restricted. If you are licensee of Qualcomm, please write to us with details.

Q. Is the Linux BSP for 820 Nano SOM customizable?

A. Yes, Mistral provides source access to Linux kernel and Yocto. Software proprietary to Qualcomm is provided in the form of binaries only. Mistral can also offer customization services on Linux and Yocto for a given requirement.

A. The 820 Nano SOM supports USB 3.0 OTG functionality. The carrier boards compatible with the 820 Nano SOM can realize the USB 3.0 OTG port over a USB-C termination. The support for USB Gadget (block I/O and TCP/IP) can be realized if they are standard features supported by the Linux kernel.

Q. Can I access the IO ports (GPIO, I2C, UARTS) on 820 Nano SOM through apps processor?

A. Yes, the IO ports are accessible through the application processor. Mistral can also provide customization services to access the IO ports from DSP.

Q. 820 Nano SOM has two 4-lane DSI outputs. Does this mean it can support 2 concurrent LCDs?

A. Yes

Q. Can I interface other hardware on the 820 Development Kit?

A. Yes, most of the primary interfaces on the Snapdragon 820 processor are exposed through the expansion connectors present on the 820 Development Kit. Adaptor boards are available and can also be custom designed by Mistral to accommodate other hardware to the 820 Development Kit and the required drivers for them need to be developed in order to realize the required functionality.

CAMERA

 

Q. I don’t see a camera or LCD on the 820 Development Kit. How can I prototype requirements that need a camera and display?

A. Camera is a feature that is realized using the adaptor board. This needs to be obtained separately and does not ship with the 820 Development Kit.

When connected to the Carrier board through the custom expansion header, the camera adaptor board makes the 820 Development Kit capable of realizing camera-based applications. LCD can be realized using another custom adaptor board. However, the 820 Development Kit supports display through HDMI by default.

Q. I want to use a camera module of my choice. How can this be done?

A. The camera adaptor board needs to be customized to accommodate the sensor chosen by a customer. This will include software development to realize the functionality of the chosen sensor on the Development Kit.

The camera adaptor board is designed for quick customization and hence the turnaround time to modify the design to accommodate a different camera sensor would be short. Mistral can provide the required customization support at an additional cost.
