The CAN Expansion Module from Mistral is an integral part of the OMAP-L138 EVM. Built around the TI’s OMAP-L138 low-power application processor, this card enables the OMAP-L138 EVM to be deployed in applications requiring a CAN interface. This module is now available separately for customers, who want to quickly deploy these features to their CAN based product development.

The CAN expansion module includes CAN transceiver that will be driven by two sources: a hardware CAN controller Microchip-MCP2515 and the on-chip Programmable Real time Unit (PRU) I/Os (“soft” approach). The on-chip PRU will provide a “soft” CAN interface and allow this “soft” CAN to directly drive the CAN transceiver ISO1050. The CAN expansion module also includes a UART interface with flow control.

The CAN Expansion Module interfaces are routed to the board-to-board connectors and will connect to J28 connector on the OMAP-L138 EVM.The CAN Expansion Module is also compatible with the AM1808 EVM.
