Mistral announces the availability of Rapid Replay - the innovative product from Curtiss - Wright Controls Embedded Computing

November 2005
Mistral Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a leading provider of complete technology solutions and professional services in the embedded space, announced the availability of the Rapid Replay, an innovative product from Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC) that allows you to record and playback streaming Serial FPDP data or simply retrieve the recorded data from storage.

Rapid Replay utilizes the ANSI / VITA 17.1-2003 Serial FPDP standard protocol, which is being used by leaders in signal-to processor technology worldwide. It conveniently records Serial FPDP input data onto one or more Fibre Channel JBODs. The user can then playback the stored data in Serial FPDP format to a digital signal processor for later analysis. In addition, the same data can be retrieved directly off storage via Fibre Channel by multiple computers using dissimilar operating systems.

Utilizing a single input channel, Rapid Replay records streaming data at a blistering 245 MB/s. Because the system is scalable, the user can add additional input channels for additional system bandwidth. A dual channel system will yield 490 MB/s, a quad channel system 760 MB/s. Rapid Replay’s inputs come equipped with 850nm optical transceivers. 1310nm, 1550nm optical and HSSDC2 transceivers are available options. Rapid Replay provides playback in Serial FPDP format as well.

Rapid Replay utilizes ANSI X3.230-1994 Fibre Channel to record and retrieve stored data. Each storage channel stores data at 200 MB/s. Like the input channels, storage channels are scalable to quad channel performance (800 MB/s). For direct retrieval, users can specify data by frame number or time interval. Systems retrieving this data can use different operating systems. The raw data is recovered from the Fibre Channel JBOD and reconstructed in order. Additionally, the retrieval system can read previously recorded data as new data is being recorded.

The easy to use Rapid Replay GUI allows the user to quickly record, play, or stop a data recording session using the intuitive control panel. Above the panel are icons representing the Serial FPDP input/output channels, the system CPU, system memory, and storage disks. Clicking on any of these icons reveals an information window.

Apart from using field proven technology and being extremely versatile, the Rapid Replay is available in a space-saving 3U package.

The mirroring mode on the 360 Switch PMC allows one port to monitor all other ports on the switch. This optional mode allows for backpressure or flow control to tell different ports to slow down when the monitor port is busy or experiencing very high level of traffic. If the offending ports do not slow down, packets will be lost. Also offered is optional broadcast storm filtering where a high level of multi-casting and/or broadcast traffic is seen. This feature monitors and, if necessary, constrains the level of broadcast traffic on each port.

To support backplane interconnects, the 360 Switch PMC routes all eight ports through the P14 connector. Routing through the rear eliminates the need for any RJ-45 connectors, ensuring optimal signal integrity. Each port has its own status/activity LED. The 360 Switch PMC is PCI 2.2 compliant, operating in both PCI-X and 64-bit /66 MHz PCI modes. Connection via the PMC connectors to the host board provides required power and ground rails, eliminating the need for VME bus signaling and an additional driver support.

CWCEC offers PIM Carrier Transition Modules for many of its contemporary single-board computers. Each module matches the I/O and PMC configurations offered on the SBC, providing easy connectivity for rear-routed I/O. Corresponding PIM modules are available for a variety of PMC modules.

DECtalk TTS technology offers users natural-sounding, highly intelligible speech, which transforms ordinary text into the highest quality level of speech. DECtalk technology can provide the correct pronunciation of single characters, words, phrases and proper names. Technical Details
Designed to transform ordinary text into the highest quality speech, DECtalk® Text-to-Speech (TTS) software and custom hardware products provide the clearest and highest quality voice synthesis using the least possible amount of memory. It also provides the optimum solution in situations where reading text would be inconvenient or impossible, such as mobile computing, telephone-based data access services and electronic mail. This technology can be licensed for embedded or value-added software solutions, custom hardware or in-board-only versions for OEM applications.

DECtalk software is an advanced desktop software that enables speech applications through a sound card. Mistral Software gets first round of funding from eTEC Ventures

March 2001
Mistral Software Pvt. Ltd., today announced the completion of its first round of funding through eTEC Ventures Ltd. (Mauritius). The company will be divesting approximately 20% of its stake to eTEC for an investment of about US$ 3 million. eTEC's investment will be the first round of external investment in the company.

Mistral is poised for substantial growth over the next 3 years and the funds being invested by eTEC Ventures Ltd. will be used for enabling this growth. Currently employing about 100 people in a state-of-the-art office in Bangalore, Mistral is setting up a few more design and R&D centers to support the 500 engineers it proposes by 2003. Mistral has set up a business development office in the USA to accelerate its marketing efforts. It is also working with companies in Japan and Europe to grow its business in these markets. Mistral is also refining its plans to venture into ASIC design.

Mistral was founded in 1997 by an experienced team of young entrepreneurs with an investment of only about $12,000 and 3 computers that came from the homes of its 3 founders. The company has been profitable from the first month and grown phenomenally over the last 3 years without any borrowings or external funds. The management team is headed by S.M.Ahmed (Anees) - President, Rajeev R - VP of Hardware Engineering, Narayanan Bhattathiripad - VP of Embedded Software and Rajashekar Reddy - VP Finance and Administration.

According to Anees Ahmed, Mistral's President & CEO, "We could have achieved the desired growth levels with our strong internal accruals. However, eTEC's investment will help us compress this growth period from five years to two years. We had many offers of investment, some even at valuations higher than those offered by eTEC. However, we decided to go with eTEC primarily because of the value addition they could offer us by networking us with potential customers especially in the US. We were also impressed with the speed with which the entire team at IDEA (eTEC's partner in India) moved in order to close this deal in less than 45 days."

G Philip Stephenson, President of International Equity Partners LP and manager of eTEC stated, "We are very impressed by the team at Mistral and what they have achieved in a short span of three years. We are very bullish on the hardware design and embedded software markets given the size and growth of the market. The embedded solutions market alone is expected to increase to USD 7.9 Billion in 2003 and we firmly believe that Mistral is in a position to exploit this market given its track record and its current relationships with customers."

Subsequent to the investment sign off, Mr.Sanjaya Kulkarni joins the Board of Directors at Mistral. Sanjaya brings 27 years of experience in the financial markets. An Electrical Engineer from IIT, Bombay and an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad, Sanjaya was with Citibank for 7 years in merchant and corporate banking. Later he founded and headed 20th Century Finance group of companies. Currently he co-manages eTEC Ventures and the India Direct Fund which, together, have corpuses of approximately $60M.
